Honey Oat Bread

This was one of the favourites from the people I used to bake for at the student house 509. They were always up for a sweet bread. The oats add great flavour as well. But yes, as I said, it is sweet. It would admittedly taste funny with salami. You can always keep out the honey if you like, and substitute it with anything you like - sunflower seeds for example. In fact, replace the oats as well if you like, get creative.

You can also replace honey and oats with sun dried tomatoes and chopped olives and replace milk with olive oil. Works great.

What you need:
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 2 cups of oats
  • 2 tablespoons of honey (or more if you like it sweet)
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Some milk
  • Warm water
  • Optional: Brown sugar
1. Add a little warm water to yeast and keep aside.

2. Mix dry ingredients in a big bowl.

3. Make crater and add oil, milk, some water, honey, yeast solution (which should be bubbly) starting to mix from the crater outwards.

4. Knead! Like you've never kneaded before. 10 minutes.

5. Let rise. 30 minutes.

6. Heat up the oven to 200 Celsius. Bake for 35 minutes or until brown crust.
